Hindu Heritage Month

What Is Hindu Heritage Month?

November is recognized as Hindu Heritage Month in Canada, established by a federal act in 2016 to celebrate the culture, traditions, and contributions of Canadians of Hindu heritage. During this time, communities honor the impact of Hindu Canadians across various sectors, including politics, business, medicine, and the arts. The month is also an opportunity to promote understanding of Hindu values, such as dharma, ahimsa, and yoga. The month also serves as an opportunity for education about Hinduism’s history, values, philosophy, and cultural traditions.

Significance & Impact

  • There are roughly 1,000,000 Canadians of Hindu heritage.

  • The month helps raise visibility and awareness for Hindu Canadians and their role in Canadian society.

  • It supports multicultural dialogue and helps counter ignorance or prejudice by educating others about Hindu traditions and values.
